Project Background
Many appliances found in homes as well as in public do not offer accessible use options for people with visual impairments. As such, people with visual impairments must search specifically for devices with accessibility functions - which are more scarce (sometimes nonexistent) and often more expensive - or forfeit the ability to use that device. Some leading dishwasher brands, for example, have foregone easy-to-use tactile controls in favor of touchscreens with no tactile differentiation between buttons. Because there is no widespread solution that allows for use of any device, people with visual impairments must often rely on companies to make accessible devices that are affordable.
